our assets by $42 billion and we have a need for more than

NALC President: A void at the top gives PMG free rein
The Postal Service and
much of Washington are caught in a time warp. For some reason,
they still think it’s 2009 and that the Postal Service is
in terminal decline. USPS Board of Governors has effectively
ceased to function as either a guiding or restraining force
on management. It no longer has a quorum to make decisions
or exert influence. There are now five vacancies — out
of nine seats! Indeed, three of the four governors were
appointed by President George W. Bush and may simply share
the PMG’s austerity agenda.

It looks
like the folks in L’Enfant Plaza will be the last to acknowledge
what everyone else in the country already knows — customer
service at the Postal Service is going way down hill, and
fast. The plant consolidations have resulted in delayed mail,
late delivery, and countless other service problems. Under
POStPlan, service has declined due to reducing hours at post
offices and replacing experienced postmasters with poorly
trained and underpaid personnel. The shift from door and curb
delivery to cluster boxes has confused and angered thousands
of customers. When customers try calling to complain, they
can’t even get hold of their local post office.

Disability Retirement for the Federal and Postal Worker:
Coordinating the Elements for Success
- by Attorney Robert R. McGill
- Mistake
not and confuse not; there is very little doubt that the Federal
or Postal Worker who contemplates filing for Federal Disability
Retirement benefits overwhelmingly suffers from medical conditions
which will qualify for Federal Disability Retirement benefits.
The problem resides not in the severity or extent of the medical
condition; rather, the difficulties manifest themselves in
the failure to recognize what the law requires. Proof
sufficient in a Federal Disability Retirement application
is not based upon the medical condition itself, but upon the
nexus created between one’s medical condition and the essential
elements of one’s job.
